The ACCA Advanced Financial Management (AFM) exam is an ACCA Strategic Professional Level paper. 

The exam has 1 x 50 mark question and 2 x 25 mark questions, all done in ACCA’s exam software. The pass mark is 50%. 

It builds on knowledge from Financial Management (FM), and covers topics such as investment appraisal, finance decisions, risk management and business valuations.

• It relates to the real world. Lots of business news stories and real life cases link to topics covered in AFM. 

• It has consistently good pass rates. AFM often has the highest or 2nd highest global pass rate of the 4 options papers. 

• It leads to great careers. AFM opens many doors, including exciting roles in M&A and commercial finance. 

• It’s a nice mix of numbers and words. AFM has lots of calculations, but also requires good writing skills. 

Yes! Lots of students were exempt from FM or sat it a long time ago. I have designed my course to recap the basics from FM and build from there, so you will be fine. 

I also provide additional resources to ensure you have no knowledge gaps. 

AFM is a nice mix of both. It will always include an element of calculation, and then often requires students to discuss what they have calculated. 

There are 20 professional skills marks in the exam, which test students’ professional scepticism, analysis and evaluation, commercial acumen and communication skills.
