The ACCA Advanced Financial Management (AFM) exam is part of the ACCA Strategic Professional Level. It consists of one 50-mark question and two 25-mark questions, all completed using ACCA’s official exam software. The pass mark is 50%.
This exam builds on concepts from Financial Management (FM) and explores more advanced topics including investment appraisal, capital structure, risk management, business valuations, and financial strategy.
Absolutely. Here are five reasons why students (and employers!) love AFM:
Engaging topics like business valuations, M&A, and financial strategy keep the content interesting and relevant.
Real-world application — many concepts link directly to business news and global finance stories.
Strong pass rates — AFM consistently ranks among the top for global pass rates in the Options papers.
Career progression — opens doors to high-impact roles in corporate finance, investment analysis, and strategic planning.
Balanced skills — it blends calculations with written analysis, giving you a well-rounded skillset.
Yes — and you’re not alone. Many students are exempt from FM or studied it long ago. My courses include essential FM refreshers and foundational resources to bring you up to speed quickly, ensuring you won’t be left behind.
It’s a balanced mix. AFM questions typically involve performing financial analysis followed by clear interpretation and discussion.
You’ll also be assessed on 20 professional skills marks for areas like professional scepticism, commercial awareness, analysis, and communication — skills that are vital for a finance leader.
